Social Justice Comittee

Social Justice Committee Overview

Introduction to Social Justice: Social justice broadly refers to the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within a society. The Social Justice Committee (SJC) focuses on four main areas:

  1. Immigration Justice:

    • Focus: Primary area of concern for the past few years.
    • Issues: Addressing the complex, ever-changing needs of asylum seekers and migrants at our border with Mexico. Humanitarian aid remains a constant necessity.
  2. Climate Change/Environmental Justice:

    • Issue: A complex global challenge.
    • Action: Supporting local recycling initiatives and promoting sustainable living and green local agendas.
  3. Income Inequality:

    • Past Contributions: Time, energy, and resources have been dedicated to local food banks and homeless shelters.
    • Current Efforts: Continuation of support as resources permit.
  4. Local Politics:

    • Regulations: As a religious organization, we do not support individual candidates or parties.
    • Activities: Engaged in political education and activism, focusing on voter registration, turnout, and education.

Additional Concerns:

  • Racism/White Privilege
  • Community Policing
  • Domestic Violence/Women’s Shelters
  • LGBTQ Discrimination
