Let’s Pack the House!
The Long Arc of Justice Film Series continues this month with a screening of The River and the Wall at Light Hall Theater on the WNMU campus on September 8. The River in the title is the Rio Grande, and the Wall is the Trump Administration’s destructive vanity project along our southern border. Although the film premiered in 2019, its subject could hardly be more pertinent today, as Wall construction continues apace, despoiling some of our most beloved public lands.It is brought to us by Silver City Indivisible’s Immigration Working group.
Of particular interest: the film’s producer, Hillary Pierce, will offer us a post-screening Q & A at Light Hall. Given that admission to the film is free, let’s make it a point to fill the theater with locals who cherish the Rio Grande and want to act to preserve its integrity. The film will screen at 6:30 PM on September 8. Please spread the word to friends and social-justice allies.

Last month we had a request from Samaritanos Sin Fronteras. They’re a humanitarian aid group in Ajo, AZ that supports a small shelter just across the border in Sonoyta MX. A small girl at that shelter had been badly burned by scalding water from a microwave accident and had to be rushed to a hospital for surgery. Funds were needed for medical care and family support.
