Border Justice Update 9/23/2026

Does this need an explanation???

Deb James, in conjunction with our UU Border Justice Project is selling beautiful Blue Wave t-shirts. No words…no dates…just an image we can wear forever!
She has ordered 50. Order yours NOW for $10/each or purchase one at the Get Out The Vote (GOTV) dance October 10 for $15/each. More info about the dance in my next email; but save the date!! They make great gifts! Proceeds go to our UU Border Justice Project. Text Deb at 505-440-8308 with name and size(s) desired. The sooner you order it, the longer you can wear it 🌊 💙 🌊.

My last email publicized the film The River and The Wall. I hope you were able to attend. The photography and message were both so powerful! But if you missed it or don’t live close to Silver City, you can still find it on Amazon Prime. Definitely worth the watch ☺️

In keeping with the theme of the movie which emphasized the effect that The Wall has on wildlife, Randy Harkins, a local Silver City poet, wrote this poem about watching Sandhill Cranes.

Migrants

Somewhere lonely
Past the Pyramid Mountains
And south of the playas
Along the Old Spanish Trail
A Border Patrol green and white
Pulled off on the right
Uniformed men walk in circles
Around a valley of thorns–
At Whitewater Draw
Migrants glide
Drop from the sky
Guided by the bugle calls
Of sisters and brothers
Marching through
Marsh and reeds
The land moves
With slow gray ghosts
Two million years without borders
Two million years on the road–
I sit on a splintered bench
I’m present– still as stone
Listening to sandhills
Their sound as deep as bones
Every migrant had a home
Eternity is only borrowed time
A moment seems so long
When you can fly
Two million years
Without counting the miles
Without a worry
For crossing lines
Now this refuge
Close to feed
Grows a billboard sign
Across the street
That advertises your life
To shotgun men
Migrants–
Free to fly
Forbidden to land

And we now have these bumper stickers available at the UU building. Reply to this email if you would like help getting one. They will also be for sale at the GOTV dance on October 10th. Proceeds benefit the work of Battalion Search and Rescue.

Thank you for being a part of the resistance and, more importantly, the change we need to sustain our community and ourselves 💞 🙏 ~Barbara
